Dad Lessons

The following entry may not fit into a history blog, but in many ways it does. These were written by my daughter, Kasandra in honor of my birthday and father's day. It amazes me that, as a parent, we don't always know how much of what we try to teach our children ever takes hold. And, in fact, more often we are not intentionally or directly "teaching". We are simply living the example we would like our children to adopt as the way they live their lives and that they will "teach" their children as well. God has created us in such a way that we teach by example.Children see those valuable qualities and positive behaviors in us and eventually (after some not so unexpected rebellion or rejection) pattern their lives to mirror our example.
Anyway, I wanted to share these lessons my daughters learned. And I hope that, if you are a parent of young children, you may take encouragement that the Word is true when it says, "Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it. My prayer is that my granddaughters, and yours, will also learn these lessons and continue to teach them to their children.

But, we did take our vows seriously, without even a consideration of the possibility that we could, at any time we desired, call the whole thing off. We entered into the union, even at that young age, expecting our lives together to be "till death parts us." As I reflect on our 50 years together, and observe the change in the minds of so many couples as they approach marriage, I perceive that the mindset in our culture today seems to be that nothing is permanent, not even a marriage covenant is binding f...
