Dad Lessons

The following entry may not fit into a history blog, but in many ways it does. These were written by my daughter, Kasandra in honor of my birthday and father's day. It amazes me that, as a parent, we don't always know how much of what we try to teach our children ever takes hold. And, in fact, more often we are not intentionally or directly "teaching". We are simply living the example we would like our children to adopt as the way they live their lives and that they will "teach" their children as well. God has created us in such a way that we teach by example.Children see those valuable qualities and positive behaviors in us and eventually (after some not so unexpected rebellion or rejection) pattern their lives to mirror our example.
Anyway, I wanted to share these lessons my daughters learned. And I hope that, if you are a parent of young children, you may take encouragement that the Word is true when it says, "Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it. My prayer is that my granddaughters, and yours, will also learn these lessons and continue to teach them to their children.

Thousands of years of history will most assuredly bear witness to the truth of this statement. The world, except in the very early days of its creation, has existed in an abnormal state. And why is it abnormal? Simply because while God Almighty, its Creator, formed perfection, man has turned that perfection into a state of abnormality. And while mankind, since the beginning, has looked upon his abnormal world and pronounced it right, has there ever been a period of history in which so many abnormal elements have been declared and "deemed" o k. Schaeffer spoke the truth. Acceptance of what is abnormal (by God's standards) does not make it right. Look at the issues coming to the forefront in just the past 40 years. Issues which throughout all the centuries of this earth were considered sin, and ...
Who Is This Man? The Unpredictable Impact of the Inescapable Jesus John Ortberg sums up the whole message of this book in the Epilogue when he writes, "Humanity and divinity somehow intersect in this one man. He became like us so that we might become like him."
